The company was founded in 1981 as an electro-mechanical factory producing devices for temperature and flow control. Industrietechnik in 1987 launched a production line complete with devices for thermo-regulation which, over the years, resulted in the production of a wide range of electro-mechanical and electronic products (analogical and digital).

Shanthala Power Research Corporation was approved by The Chief Electrical Inspectorate , Govt. Of Karnataka in the year 2002 In September 2003, SPRC was certified with ISO 9001-2000. In July 2004 SPRC was Accredited by NABL- National Accreditation Board For Testing and Calibration Laboratories, Ministry of Science and Technology Govt. of India.

At present SPRC is a leading power equipment-testing laboratory for carrying out Condition monitoring tests on Power equipments like generators, HT motors, Bushings, Cables, and Transformers & Transformer oil. SPRC also carries out condition monitoring at site, on Transformers ranging up to 315 MVA capacity, 400 kV class.
